About course

The OTHM Level 3 Technical Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety has been developed to enable learners to gain an understanding of health and safety practices within a working environment. It gives insight into how to manage workplace issues and covers the areas encountered in a health and safety role.

Course requirements

OTHM does not specify formal entry requirements for this qualification, but centres must ensure learners have the capability to undertake the learning and assessment criteria.

  • Learners can be offered this qualification from age 16, and some working knowledge of health and safety in the work environment would be advantageous

  • Learners from non-majority English-speaking countries must provide evidence of English language competency

Assessments

The qualification is assessed through coursework, and learners must achieve a pass by meeting all learning outcomes and assessment criteria in every mandatory unit.

  • Unit 1 is assessed by Short Answer Questions (SAQ)

  • Unit 2 is assessed by Assignment Tasks and Short Answer Questions (SAQ)

  • Unit 3 is assessed by Assignment Tasks and Short Answer Questions (SAQ)

  • Overall grading is Pass/Fail

Progression

The OTHM Level 3 Technical Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety enables learners to progress into employment and further study in occupational health and safety.

  • Progress to employment in health and safety related roles

  • Progress toward the OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety with appropriate experience

  • Progress to the OTHM Level 7 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management

  • Progress to an MSc with UK universities and London Graduate School
